How to Make Coffee with an AeroPress - Step-by-Step
This is a step-by-step guide on how to make AeroPress espresso-style coffee. This is the closest thing to espresso coffee at home without buying an espresso machine.
How to Make Coffee with an AeroPress
Are you tired of your usual cup of coffee and looking to try something new? Look no further than the AeroPress! This handy little device is perfect for brewing a delicious cup of coffee, and it's incredibly easy to use. In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the steps of making espresso-style coffee with an AeroPress, so you can enjoy a barista-quality cup of coffee from the comfort of your own home.
What You'll Need
Before we get started, let's gather all the necessary ingredients and equipment:
AeroPress
Coffee beans
Grinder
Kettle
Filtered water
Stirring spoon
Timer
Mug
Step 1: Grind Your Coffee Beans
The first step in making coffee with an AeroPress is to grind your coffee beans. For the best results, use a medium-fine grind. If you don't have a grinder, you can purchase pre-ground coffee, but freshly ground beans will give you a more flavorful cup of coffee.
Step 2: Prepare the AeroPress
For this tutorial, we are going to use the inverted method because it prevents water from dripping onto the filter until you are ready. Assemble your AeroPress by placing the plunger into the chamber just enough so that water doesn't leak then flip your AeroPress over so that the plunger is at the bottom.
Step 3: Heat the Water
Now it's time to heat the water. Bring your kettle to a boil and then let it cool for about 30 seconds. The ideal water temperature for brewing coffee with an AeroPress is around 200°F (93°C).
Step 4: Add Coffee and Water
Measure out the desired amount of coffee grounds and add them to the AeroPress chamber. I usually do 18 grams of coffee to 60 grams of water because this is what is typically used in a double shot of espresso. Start your timer and pour a small amount of hot water over the coffee grounds, just enough to wet them. Give it a gentle stir for about 10 seconds to ensure all the grounds are saturated.
Step 5: Brew and Press
After about 30 seconds, slowly pour the remaining hot water into the AeroPress chamber, filling it to the desired level. Place the filter inside of the filter cap and screw it on top of the chamber. Once the filter cap is on the chamber flip the AeroPress onto your cup(Make sure the AeroPress can fit) and gently press applying steady pressure. The brewing process should take about 1 to 2 minutes.
Step 6: Enjoy Your Coffee
Once you've pressed all the way down, your coffee is ready to be enjoyed! Simply remove the AeroPress from your mug, give it a quick rinse, and you're good to go. Add milk, sugar, or any other flavorings to suit your taste.
Experiment with different coffee beans, grind sizes, and brewing times to find your perfect cup of coffee with the AeroPress. It's a versatile brewing method that allows you to customize your brew to your liking.
I recommend trying an AeroPress if you want the closest thing to espresso without spending hundreds of dollars!
